| | Description: | The theme of this year-long expedition is "Energy and Conservation." Codman Academy tenth graders study advanced physics topics while looking at our world's energy consumption, their own personal energy choices, and how these things are leading to global climate change.
| | Participants: | High school, grade 10 physics.
| | Schedule: | A yearlong expedition (90 minute classes 3 times a week, 60 minute class one hour a week, fieldwork Fridays every other week).
| | Goals: | Throughout a series of 3 major investigations, students will cover physics topics ranging from waves and the EM spectrum, to heat and thermal energy, to circuits and electrical energy. We also seek to answer the following questions in the course of our studies:- Why should I be interested in learning about energy?
- In what ways does energy influence our lives?
- How much energy am I consuming?
- How can I reduce my energy consumption?
- Why should I try to reduce my energy consumption?
- What is global climate change?
- What is my role in global climate change?
- How can I influence others to make smarter energy decisions?
| Assessment & Products: | A series of written assessments (including lab reports for experiments conducted in class, and a letter to the president about the physics of global warming), as well as the creation of short films on various energy-related topics.
