Team Codman 2012

We are excited to introduce the dedicated members of Team Codman 2012, who will be braving the cold New England winter weather to train for the 2012 Boston Marathon while raising money to support our Wellness Program.  Please consider making a donation to support their fundraising campaigns and training efforts!

Rebecca Cipriano is running for Team Codman because she believes in education opportunities for all kids.  Rebecca lives in Brookline and works as a Systems Administrator at YouthBuild USA, a nonprofit that employs young people to build affordable housing in their communities, in Somerville, MA.  After undergoing surgery one year ago on an ACL and meniscus tear in her knee, Rebecca is back to training for marathons. The Boston Marathon will be Rebecca’s third marathon, and she is currently running 45 miles a week in preparation.  When she isn’t training, Rebecca enjoys spending time with family and friends, as well as running and cycling.  She is fascinated by technology and is an advocate for human rights.  Rebecca will be cheered on by her four-year-old daughter, Maya.  Support Rebecca's campaign!

Lawrence Hester has been a longtime supporter of Codman Academy, serving as Codman’s track coach for the past two years.  Sports and coaching have always been an important part of Lawrence’s life, from his high school days of coaching sailing and skiing to his college career on the Brown University sailing team to his participation in Tri2B, a New York-based triathlon club, as he prepared for his first Ironman.  Formerly a Wall Street trader, Lawrence is currently the founder and CEO of Emmie'z Croutons and a social media consultant to Ovascience.  The most challenging races he has done to date include the Ironman Louisville ’09 and the Tough Mudder New England ’11.  A native Minnesotan, he is not intimidated by the prospect of snowy winter runs, and he is looking forward to running a marathon without having to swim and bike 100+ miles beforehand.  He is running for Codman because he believes in the importance of providing athletic opportunities for students.  Support Lawrence's campaign!

Michael Kaplanidis grew up in Codman Square, where his parents owned a Greek restaurant.  The new Codman Square Health and Education Center is being built on the same grounds where Michael’s childhood home once stood.  He says, "Just as the Boston Marathon continues to be a lifelong dream for me, so too is inner city development.  I was fortunate enough to experience the invaluable service that Codman Academy provides to the local community and its students.”  Michael is currently the Managing Director of Water Street Associates in Boston.  Michael first learned about Codman while listening to NPR, and over the past few years, he has been a volunteer and supporter.  “Team Codman, will provide the inspiration and willpower for me to successfully cross the finish line and to give back to Codman Square, a community that I once called home.”  This will be Michael’s first marathon.  Michael is also a supporter of Artists for Humanity and enjoys skiing, photography, attending vintage car shows, traveling, and doing pro-bono work during the tax season.  Support Michael's campaign!

Along with being a runner, Troy Lewis is a big advocate for charter schools.   When a friend told him about Team Codman, he jumped at the opportunity to align his enthusiasm for charter schools and conviction that all students should have choice in education with his drive to compete in the Boston Marathon, a goal he has been working toward for several years.  He says, “Running for Codman will help me feel like I am making a difference in the lives of students that are also seeking out choice and opportunity within the public school system.”  In, Utah, their home state, Troy’s family is fully integrated in the charter school system: all three of Troy’s children attend charter schools, and his wife works at a charter school as a kindergarten teaching assistant.  Troy is the Vice President of Heritage Bank and is actively involved in community service.  He volunteers as a CPA and as a race official for the Utah Human Race, a race held on Thanksgiving to raise funds for a local food bank.  Troy also serves on several nonprofit boards.  In 2009, Troy ran the New York Marathon on Team For Kids to raise money for youth services.   Last year, he achieved his personal best time of 3:19 in the 2011 Utah Valley Marathon.  The Boston Marathon will be Troy’s ninth marathon.  Support Troy's campaign!

Sean Wilder joined Team Codman because he believes in the value that wellness programs can add to charter schools.  He says, “I’ve heard amazing things about the school and all it is doing for its students, both academically and socially.” This will be Sean’s second marathon.  Sean’s first marathon, the NYC Marathon, was his best run so far because of the “incredible energy and crowd support. I can’t wait to feel a similar atmosphere in a different city.”  Sean is also a supporter of the Brain Injury Association.  He works at BV Investment Partners as an Associate, and his hobbies include soccer, running, and entrepreneurship.  Support Sean's campaign!
