Codman Students Organize Obama Honk In to Celebrate Historic Election!

The morning after the historic November 4th election, Codman Academy Charter Public School students spontaneously organized a very lively honk-in in celebration of the Obama victory for 40 minutes in Codman Square. Bill Walczak, CEO of Codman Square Health Center and President of Codman Academy Charter Public School board of trustees noted that he'd never seen anything like this in Codman Square. Fox 25 film crew came later to film a class discussion in grade 11 humanities class of what the Obama election means for the country and for our students. It means everything.

"While pupils elsewhere are focused on mastering the dull facts and equations of standardized tests, seniors at Dorchester's Codman Academy Charter Public School also must stand and deliver a public accounting of the sum of their own parts: Who they are, and how they got there."

-Know Thyself, Ric Kahn, Boston Globe, February 10, 2008

An Evening with Lawrence O'Donnell, Jr.

Lawrence O'Donnell Jr. was the featured speaker at a recent Codman evening in Brookline. A Dorchester native, Mr. O'Donnell is an MSNBC political analyst and Emmy Award-winning producer for the NBC series West Wing. He's shown here autographing his book, Deadly Force, for Marlon Thompson '06, Boston College '10 and Herman Delande '05, Northeastern University '10.

"I left very impressed by the clarity of mission and approach. It seems to me what you are doing is important for these specific young people as well as an important experiment for education."

-Chris Gabrielli
Chairman and Co-Founder of Massachusetts 2020
