Core Academics:

• Codman Academy Expeditions: A site developed by Codman Academy faculty and staff featuring over ten detailed expeditions in multiple disciplines. Expeditions include a summary, walk through, classroom materials, examples of student work, and assessment tools. Most recently, a humanities and chemistry expedition were added. The humanities expedition is a trimester long investigation in which students learn about methods of historiography by studying the complex history of the Columbus encounter with the Taino Arawaks. In this expedition, the teacher documents how writing is taught within the 9th grade Justice/Injustice curriculum. The second expedition, entitled Chemistry and Cooking, investigates the major concepts of chemistry and the scientific process through a yearlong expedition on the chemistry of cooking. In accord with Expeditionary Learning values, both classes spent extensive time off site conducting fieldwork relating to the learning expedition. Click here to visit the site.
